North Carolina's Microsoft Settlement Voucher Applications are Available NOW!
A new source of funding for educational hardware and software is here now for hundreds of North Carolina public schools from the consumer class action law suit settlement against Microsoft. Under the terms of the settlement, qualifying North Carolina schools are eligible for $40.9 million in vouchers for educational hardware and software.
The Department of Public Instruction, Instructional Technology Department has created a Microsoft Vouchers web site for NC educators explaining the Vouchers, eligible products, and voucher submission procedures.
Eligible schools include elementary and middle schools with 60% or more of their students on Free or Reduced Price Lunch and high Schools with 70% or more of such students.
Finance Officers at eligible districts have received information from the Settlement Admnistrator about the process and amounts.
One half of the vouchers are General Purpose Vouchers, the other half is dedicated to software similar to Microsoft products. One quarter of the General Purpose Vouchers is available for any non-custom software sold by any software publisher that will run on the hardware acquired with the vouchers.
